Nephrectomy in Turkey
A nephrectomy is an operation to remove all or part of the kidney. Nephrectomy is commonly done to treat kidney cancer or to remove a noncancerous (benign) tumor. In some cases a nephrectomy is done to treat a diseased or severely damaged kidney.
Nephrectomy can be of two types:
- Nephrectomy: In this type of nephrectomy, the entire kidney is removed along with part of the ureter, the adrenal glands, and the fatty tissue that surrounds the kidney. If both kidneys are removed at the same time, it is called a bilateral nephrectomy.
- Partial Nephrectomy: In this type of nephrectomy, the diseased part of the kidney is surgically removed, leaving the healthy tissue intact.
